2022 Campaign Victories

Since our founding in 2022, we have been hard at work. Our fall 2022 housing justice campaign is an example of how C4C Action works - and wins!

In November, Oakland voters approved three critical housing justice measures by sweeping margins, creating a pathway to plan and build low-rent housing in Oakland, while expanding tenant protection to keep people in their homes. Here’s what these measures will do:

  • Measure V: (Received 68% yes votes!) Approved expansions to Oakland’s Just Cause ordinance to cover more recently constructed units, RVs, tiny homes, and units with children and teachers during the school year

  • Measure Q: (Received 80% yes votes!) Authorized the construction of up to 13,000 affordable, social housing units, effectively exempting the city from a racist law in California called Article 34 that requires voter approval to build low-rent housing

  • Measure U: (Received 75% yes votes!) Allowed the city to issue general obligation bonds, generating $350 million to create or preserve affordable housing by taking it off of the speculative market in the city

Leading up to the election, C4C Action led the field campaign for this package of housing ballot measures in Oakland. To secure these victories, we held dozens of door knocking shifts attended by a base of nearly 50 volunteers, ultimately knocking the doors of thousands of Oakland residents to educate them on these measures and encourage them to vote YES.

To celebrate this victory after the election, we hosted a Measure Q Victory Party and Fundraiser that brought together our amazing volunteers and supporters who made this win possible. We had nearly a hundred attendees, in-person and virtual, to celebrate and support the ongoing work!
