Our Values

C4C Action’s advocacy is based on the following values to develop and realize a transformative, progressive vision for Oakland.

  1. Housing as a Human Right

    • Improving conditions at encampments, converting abandoned and distressed  homes to affordable and permanently supportive housing

    • Rezoning to encourage mixed income development in high income areas

    • Strengthening  tenant protections and measures to allow tenants to purchase the homes they live in

    • Funding the creation of navigation centers and temporary, transitional safe spaces for people without housing

    • Redefining home ownership

  2. Investing in Holistic Community Safety 

    • Resourcing our neighborhoods City Budget education and review

    • Supporting the success of Oakland’s Department of Violence Prevention

    • Responding to 911 calls regarding non-violent crimes with community-based services including mental health crisis intervention 

    • Working in coalition to make bicycle and pedestrian safety a top priority through environmental design and rapid build traffic calming solutions.

  3. Climate and Environmental Justice for All

    • Supporting efforts to remediate existing pollutants and end current diesel pollution in West Oakland by upgrading trucks to electric vehicles and rerouting trucks away from residential streets

    • Disallow transportation of coal through West Oakland

    • Cleaning and repairing Oakland streets by investing more resources in under-served neighborhoods like West Oakland

    • Investing in the Oakland Climate Justice Plan, developed in partnership with community service and environmental groups.

    • Plant 10,000 trees and green walls to clean the air, lower temperatures and promote overall mental and physical health of residents and wildlife

  4. Taxing corporate wealth to increase city revenue

    • Supporting efforts to ensure that the wealthiest companies in this city pay their fair share, taking the burden off small businesses

    • Black New Deal: a plan to develop city-wide policies and programs that reinvest in Black communities around seven focus areas: art & culture, economics, education, environment, health, housing, and public safety.
